Art Today ~ Art Yesterday

Two Classes in One at St. Martin’s This Summer!

Lecturer: Barry A. Greenlaw

Art in the Provinces – from Toledo to Liverpool

and Beyond (July 10-11 & July 17-18)

This past spring in a course entitled “The Great Art Museums of the World”, we focused on the famous museums of the major cities of Europe and America. For the summer addendum, I want to introduce you to some lesser-known and less-visited art museums: not in London or Paris or New York, but in Liverpool, England; Colmar, France; Toledo, Ohio; and Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada., to name only a few of the less familiar destinations we will visit.

The King’s Pictures – Art, Passion and Power

in 17th Century England

(July 24-25 & July 31-August 1)

This past spring, London reveled in two spectacular exhibitions that bookended the Baroque world of fashion, passion and politics, as seen through one of the greatest art collections ever formed – and lost – and then regained (at least in part). Here is the story of one of the most dramatic 40 years in English history – a Civil War, the execution of a King, and his sensuous and bigoted successor – all depicted in the extraordinary artistic record of the period.

Art Today ~ Art Yesterday, is a 4-week course, offered three times each week on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The course will begin July 10-11, and end on July 31-August 1, 2018.

FEE:  $80   ($45  either half)
