Great Art Museums of the World

A Personal Choice

Lecturer: Barry A. Greenlaw

In this age of easy and accessible travel and leisure time, the world’s top museums have become destinations in themselves; with huge crowds descending on the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Tate Modern in London. The collections (and the hype) attract millions each year, but how many of these visitors know the (often) long and involved history of the galleries themselves, which in most cases stretch back centuries to their founding.

In this 10-week course, Barry Greenlaw has chosen a dozen of his favorite art museums in this country and Europe, each to be presented and discussed at length, focusing on their often involved history from their creation to the present day. From the Hermitage in St. Petersburg to the Vatican in Rome and to the “new” museums of today, this series will, hopefully, open your eyes, not just to the famous artistic collections, but to the extraordinary buildings themselves and to the fascinating individuals who made these institutions possible, and so popular to the visitors of today.

Great Art Museums of the World is a 10-week course to be presented at St. Martin’s Activity Center from February 20-21 through May 1-2, 2018 (there will be a one-week break with no class on April 2-3). The course will be presented three times each week – on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and Tuesday evenings (7:00-9:00 p.m.).

The fee for the course is $200 (you may, if you wish, register for either half of the course: Sessions 1-5, or 6-10, for $125 either half).  To register, Click here to download and print the attached form and send, with a check in the proper amount to Barry A. Greenlaw, P.0. Box 870, Columbus, Texas 78934.
