MEET ST. MARTIN’S – Bruce Smith, Executive Director of Finance and Facilities While Bruce has worked at St. Martin’s for only five years he has decades of experience spanning a wide range of industries. He earned a BS degree in Computer Science at Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M Corpus Christi) and then worked in the information technology field in energy and transportation for a number of years. Bruce went on to become the president/chief operating officer of a pre-employment screening/ private investigations firm. He and his wife, Karen, enjoy spending time outdoors fishing, kayaking, biking and exploring. They have two adult sons and two dogs. “I was absolutely blessed to land this job at St. Martin’s, and meet so many parishioners and staff who have shown me such passion in their faith,” says Bruce. “I hope to be part of the St. Martin’s family for many years to come.” Wednesday, November 9 –The Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr. presented the painting “Adoration of the Shepherds” to the Altar Guild at their monthly meeting in thanksgiving for all their members who tend to our Lord’s table and His Body, The Church. The oil on canvas painting measures 12 3/8” X 15” inches and is dated in the 1660s from the Flemish or German School. “This is a remarkable piece,” says Dr. Levenson who gave the painting along with his wife Laura to the Altar Guild in appreciation for all members, past, present and future. “It is to remind the Altar Guild when they are handling the elements, it is as if they were touching the body of our dear Lord.” 20 THE STAR I JANUARY 2017
