During the service, a number of the approximately 100 acolytes who assist the priest in charge of worship will be commissioned and recognized for their contributions to enhancing services to help glorify God. Our acolytes play an important role in worship by enabling church services to run smoothly so that all can focus on God. SPRING CONFIRMATION CLASSES Sundays, January 15 – February 26 10:15 – 11 a.m. Activity Center, Upper Hall Join the Rev. Chad Martin and the Rev. R-J Heijmen to learn how the Episcopal Church is like other Christian churches and what makes our Anglican heritage unique. Time will be spent discussing The Book of Common Prayer, the Sacraments, and the Church’s history and polity. Adults have the opportunity to be prepared for confirmation or reception into the Episcopal Church by attending confirmation class. Sunday School for adults will not be offered on this Sunday so that all will have the opportunity to attend. The agenda items include the following: • Vote to elect five new members to serve on the Vestry for the next three- year term. • Thank our Vestry Officers and retiring Vestry Members, Altar Guild President, Episcopal Church Women of St. Martin’s President, Men of St. Martin’s President and others for their service. • Give the 2016 St. Martin’s Star Award to one who has been an exceptional leader through the years. • Review our progress in 2016 and plans for 2017 through reports from our Senior Warden, Junior Warden and others. • Review the Vestry-approved budget for 2017. Jonathan Adams Reception Sunday, January 8 Following the 11:15 a.m. service Bagby Parish Hall The Rev. Jonathan Adams grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Jana. Jonathan is currently the rector of The Village Church at Vinings, just outside of Atlanta, which he planted in 2010. From 2003 to 2010 he served as Director of Student Ministry at The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. Before that, he was the Short-term Missions Director of Reach-Out Ministries for seven years. Jonathan is a graduate of Southeastern Theological Seminary. He and Jana have three children: Noah, Lily and Caleb. THE STAR I JANUARY 2017 07
