The great occasion of Holy Baptism is a time of celebration for the child’s immediate family and friends. At St. Martin’s, we offer private ceremony times on Saturday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or noon in The Church or on Sunday immediately following the 11:15 a.m. service, which has a tentative start time of 12:30 p.m.  In addition, if you attend the Family Table service on a regular basis, we also offer a public baptism ceremony that is done as part of the worship service.

Because baptizing an individual makes them a member of the Church, we do require that the family be members prior to contacting us to schedule.  To learn more about membership at St. Martin’s, please contact Kathy Johnson, Lay Minister of Membership Ministries, at 713-985-3834 or email hidden; JavaScript is required.  Once the membership classes have been completed and requirements met, a baptism can be scheduled.

Parents and godparents are to be instructed in the meaning of Baptism, in their duties to help the new Christians grow in the knowledge and love of God, and in their responsibilities as members of His Church. – The Book of Common Prayer

Prior to the scheduled baptism date, all first-time parents and godparents, as well as those who have completed the new member classes, are required to attend baptism instruction.  The class is held the third Saturday of the month from 9–11 a.m.  Child care may be reserved for the class for infants through pre-K.

School-aged children will be required to meet for individual instruction with the Rev. Alex Graham.

If the candidate for baptism is an adult, preparation is also appropriate and must be arranged by contacting the Rev. Dr. Suse McBay at 713-985-3823 oremail hidden; JavaScript is required.  Depending on the needs of the individual, adult instruction may take more than one meeting.  As a result, an adult baptism cannot be scheduled until the instruction requirement has been met.

No baptisms are scheduled during Lent per the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

Flowers beautify the sacred spaces of our Church and are a gift to God and those who attend our worship services. The cost of altar flowers is funded through generous donations to the St. Martin’s Flower Fund and not through a line item in the church budget. Please note that you are not purchasing a floral arrangement for your ceremony; you are making a donation to the flower fund that allows St. Martin’s to continue to display flowers in our worship areas. Your gift will be acknowledged in the worship booklet and included on your year-end tax statement from St. Martin’s. A contribution to the Flower Fund is a meaningful way to honor a loved one and is also tax deductible.

If you have scheduled a baptism and are interested in making a donation to the flower fund, please use the form below to make your payment online.  To pay by check, please refer to the forms included in your baptism paperwork.
